Bolting down wall to countertop Maneuvers all overt Knowing, edgy caution Lucidly aware of terrible danger (If not of specifics, Not of steady hard arched on small soap box;) But beset by, at best, an indefinite, Unshakable impression that one Has been noticed by malevolence.
Corner-skirting, No doubt murmuring some brand Of supplication in Solitary, spurtive fright -
How could I?
Mistake refuge for trespass, With fixed sensations So sharply aware
That the potency of fear Is always in the eyes Of its object.
