Forest
If I did not know that I was hunted,
Unaware that danger lurked in
Every other shadow,
Had no one taught me that my flesh
Is the predator's favorite meat -
What would I do differently?
How many tree-cloaked,
Dim-lit trails have beckoned?
How often have I reckoned it was safer
Not to go?
And then the cardinal question:
Was it worthwhile to know?
