Could breath to breath be beauty's might? Your opened-eyed Delight shone forth from darkened halos for a vagabond night; When our late kisses fell on joyful lips, sung out sweet sighs Of longings met by equal passion - not a moment sacrificed To anguish, of all dual moments spent. What a bright space Life would be, if all encounters, impromptu or not, held in Them such pure bliss! If every kiss stowed its own taste Of honest rapture; if the very touch of every lover's skin Felt so warm, intensely close; to live would be to glow In constant ecstasy; both lungs always filled with mountain Air, nourished by rainfall, blessed by sun. But pulses slow, We are not meant to drink our fill from that good fountain. One low day, recalling my entrancement at seeing your face alight, Will be as resting on the sea's edge, with the highest peaks in sight.
