The Difference
I passed a field alive with blooms
Two dozen trees or more,-
Their branches, full with sweet perfume
Bright reds and yellows wore;
Lonely in the brilliant crowd
One tree stood dead and dark,-
Its solemn heartache spoke aloud
To cares within my heart.
I wandered further on and saw
A field empty and bare,-
Save for one tree who’s graceful awe
Was far beyond compare;
Peaceful as the quiet sky,
Each branch a work of art,-
Sweet songs met every windy sigh
That whispered in its heart.
Through this brief journey I was shown
The truth of lonely and alone.
